Silicon Valley organizer Jon Chu ’12 summarized the events: “The greatest compliment about our DOJ effort was from a recruiter who said that other schools’ career centers [aren’t able] to run their visits as smoothly and have their students as ready as the HTBA. What she didn’t mention was the fact that we accomplished this with a record number of companies and unprecedented student participation. Many thanks again to the Silicon Valley and Seattle DOJ teams for planning amazing events and to our members for representing the school at its best!”

The Silicon Valley DOJ event was December 14-16^th, 2011 and over 130 students visited approximately 5 companies each, out of a total of 22 participating companies. These included Google, LinkedIn, Cisco, Zynga, Twitter, Salesforce, NetApp, VMware, Oracle, Symantec, Visa, Ebay/Paypal, Yahoo!, Bump, Tesla, Shutterfly, and EA.

The number of attendees and companies participating far surpassed that of any previous years, which is a testament to the great planning job done by the event organizers: Jon Chu and first years Brian Chan, Kathy Lee, Josh Park, and Tommy Smith. A highlight of the week was the Anderson Student-Alumni Mixer at a bar in Palo Alto where students combined letting loose with networking. All attendees agreed it was really enlightening to see the actual work environments to better understand the individual culture of each company.

The Seattle DOJ event was January 5-6^th, 2012 in Seattle and surrounding suburbs Bellevue and Redmond. Approximately 40 HTBA members visited T-Mobile, Expedia (the parent company for Expedia, Hotwire, Hotels.com, and others), Amazon, and Microsoft. The event went off without a hitch thanks to the great organizing by Eddie Lee ’12 and Ted Kanluen ’13, and everyone had fun at the Student-Alumni Mixer at the Rock Bottom Brewery.

This posting marks the launch of a campaign that pairs external entrepreneurs who need Beta testers with HTBA members who would like to help sculpt these technologies.

We put the BETA in HTBA!

During the event, managers and recruiters from areas such as product management, marketing, finance, and business development discuss corporate goals and various opportunities within the organization. The HTBA will also host a mixer on the evening of 1/5, at a convenient location where students can get additional time to network with alumni and company representatives.

The Silicon Valley DOJ is an informational event where Anderson MBA students visit Silicon Valley technology companies to experience the company culture and to learn more about the opportunities available within the organization. The company visit usually lasts 2-3 hours and are determined by a bidding process.

I am very happy to announce the launch of our refreshed website and brand.  The HTBA board and I felt that the previous website did not reflect the intelligence, innovativeness and quality of our student body and we embarked on a dramatic redesign.  HTBA @ UCLA Anderson students and alumni are employed and engaged in creating some of the world’s most useful, compelling, amazing technology products and the board is determined to document these experiences and present them to the world.

To that end, we have built this page to be a news hub for our community, a resource for recruiters, and a guide for our student members. We have opened HTBA to the world through social media integration and are eager to be at the center of the discussion in high technology.  We invite you to explore the site and learn about HTBA.  Please don’t hesitate to contact us with questions and your feedback.

Now that school has officially closed for summer, the HTBA board is working hard on planning our club activities for fall quarter and beyond. In addition to their generous financial support, Cisco has committed to working with HTBA on our key events in the coming year.  These include career nights and DOJs.  As many of you know, Cisco is host to a large number of Anderson alumni and a great partner.  We hope to strengthen these bonds even further in the 2011 – 2012 school year.
